Our Process

Here at Longboat Leather we take so much pride in the quality of our products and will always be working on improving our process. We hand make all of our goods with 100% veg-tan leather and only use neatsfoot oil to color our products. Neatsfoot Oil has no harmful dyes and will not damage your clothing or our Earth, like most leather dyes do. We make everything to order and can customize our products to whatever the customer needs. Here are the basics of our process.

Step 1- All hides used to produce our products are hand selected by a team member and then stripped or cut into the desired shape for the product being made.

 

Step 2- Using our hand tools we then cut, edge, and finish the leather selected. 

Step 3- Using all natural neats-foot oil, we apply a coat of oil to the piece of leather which cures the product and makes it age with beauty and fit to the customers liking.

Step 4- We then apply the hardware to the product if necessary.

Step 5- The products are then hand tested for durability and quality.

Step 6- After all steps have been tediously completed, the product is then delivered to our customers! The best part about our products is that once it is in the customers hands the item continues to improve. With our natural neatsfoot oil the product will work in and the color will patina. After a year or so of wear your item will be as beautiful as ever.
